We want to alert you to an active, highly sophisticated scam targeting cryptocurrency holders through physical mail.

Fraudsters are mailing official-looking notices—often in subtle, unmarked envelopes—falsely claiming to come from the Department of the Treasury or the IRS. These letters frequently reference a "CP14-432" notice and demand that you register your cryptocurrency holdings and wallet information in a "Digital Asset Compliance Portal" (DACP) by a strict deadline to avoid severe penalties.

Please be assured that this letter is 100% a scam.

Here is what you need to know to protect your digital assets:

The portal does not exist: The IRS does not operate a Digital Asset Compliance Portal, nor do they ever require crypto holders to register private wallets or exchange accounts through an enrollment system.
Beware of the QR code: The correspondence includes a QR code designed to trap recipients by directing them to a fake phishing website that closely mimics the official IRS.gov site.

What you should do:

If you receive one of these physical letters, do not scan the QR code or visit any links provided. Instead, we highly recommend reporting the scam by forwarding a photo or scan of the notice directly to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov.
